When the production result after vacuum pressing, membrane pressing or profile wrapping is not what you expected — lifting, weak bonding, bubbles or a changed surface — do not guess from the film alone. Check the film, part, adhesive and process together, then send the details for review.
Why the result can change
The same PVC film can behave differently when the substrate, adhesive, part geometry, equipment or process changes. That is why a production issue should be reviewed as a system rather than attributed to the film alone.
What are you seeing on the finished part?
Lifting or separation after pressing Delamination / edge lifting
Often shows at edges, grooves or shortly after the press. With your team, compare this run to the last good one: film and batch if known, adhesive application, substrate and part shape, and anything that changed on the line.
What to compare first
- Did the same setup work before?
- Did film, adhesive or substrate change?
- Is the issue only on edges / routing or across the full part?
- Is it one roll/batch or multiple runs?
Weak or uneven bonding on the finished part Adhesion / not sticking evenly
Film may look seated but peel or open in places. Check adhesive type and how it was applied, panel prep and moisture, film identification, and whether this setup already worked on your vacuum press or wrapping line.
What to compare first
- Did bonding used to be acceptable on this line?
- Adhesive type, coat weight or application method — any change?
- Substrate prep and moisture vs a good run?
- One decor / thickness family or several?
Bubbles or blisters on the finished surface
Local blisters after pressing. Compare heat and cycle to a good run, adhesive and substrate moisture, and whether the same film behaved differently on an earlier batch.
What to compare first
- Same film batch as a good run, or new roll?
- Heat / cycle vs the last acceptable parts?
- Substrate moisture or adhesive wet-out changed?
- Local to one zone of the part, or across the panel?
Hard to form into deep grooves or tight radii Forming / stretching on routed MDF
Common on deep routing and sharp contours. Check film thickness family for the process, routing depth and profile shape, and whether film or adhesive lot changed since the last successful parts.
What to compare first
- Did deeper routing or a new profile start with this issue?
- Film thickness family vs parts that formed cleanly?
- Same adhesive and membrane setup as before?
- Tear / whitening only in grooves, or also on flats?
Gloss, texture or embossing looks different after pressing Surface / finish change
Finish no longer matches the expected decor look. Compare heat and cycle, membrane or contact materials, and whether the same decor code looked different on a previous batch.
What to compare first
- Same decor code / embossing as a reference part?
- Heat, cycle or membrane material vs a good run?
- One press load / roll, or recurring?
- Change only in gloss, or also texture depth?
